As an individual living in the famous Jewish neighborhood Jordaan in Amsterdam, one of my favorite Saturday activities is to go for groceries at the organic market Boerenmarkt, stroll along the side canals of Jordaan and finally treat myself by grabbing a coffee and a piece of homemade apple pie with whipped cream at the Café Winkel 43 with a friend.
The reason I like this place is that it has a really local vibe, it is vibrant, has a wide terrace facing the market & the church Noorderkerk, and last but not least, it is known to be the “go-to place” for appeltaart (apple pie) in Amsterdam!
As opposed to many places, it isn’t possible to book a spot in advance, but you can simply queue (don’t get intimidated by the length of the queue, as this is part of the experience) and get a table at their terrace or grab a piece of homemade apple pie and coffee to go, or a sandwich.
Besides this, the Cafe Winkel 43 offers other breakfast, lunch and dinner options. If you are into wine, then you can also check one of my favorite local wine places a few streets away: Divino.
