Barcelona may not have the best reputation when it comes to waves, but surfing is actually very popular here! When the waves are good, the sea is full of surfers. However, the sea is often quite calm - the perfect conditions to practice some Stand Up Paddling! In winter it might be a bit chilly, but put on a wetsuit and you get to enjoy a breathtaking view of Barcelona's skyline from your paddle board.
SUP is very popular and you will find many surf schools around Barceloneta offering boards and material for a fair price. You don't need much experience but if the sea is slightly choppy it might be harder than it looks!
The most popular surf spot in Barcelona is the slightly curved corner of the sea near the W hotel. Here you'll find Pukas Surf, the best known surf school in town. They offer different boards for rent so you can try on your own, but you can also opt for a class with an instructor. If you're up for something more challenging, you can take an Ocean Pilates class on a SUP board!
Low budget travelling? You might want to consider going for lunch at Surf House Barcelona. They allow you to take their SUP boards for free! But even better, they organise many fun events related to SUP, such as paddling & a cocktail on a full moon night or weekend brunch combined with a SUP lesson for an hour. Good vibrations here for sure!
