If the unpredictability of the weather in Brussels has taught me one thing, it’s to always have a backup plan for rainy, windy, and cold days. When it’s hard to even think about leaving your apartment on a Sunday afternoon because of the grey sky, but your FOMO whispers in your ear that you should be doing something anyway, a cozy cafe is a place you want to head to.
Jackie, on the busy street of Chaussée de Waterloo, is a minimalist café where you can enjoy a warm drink and unwind, reading a book or flipping through one of the Indie magazines they offer, including lifestyle and interior design ones. The simplicity of its decor, which also reflects on walls with neutral colors, will dip you in a calm atmosphere that will feel like a treat for your soul. The smell of toasted coffee and freshly baked pastry (including a carrot cake you will want to steal the recipe for), will make you want to hang out just a little longer. Laptops are only allowed upstairs, meaning the ground floor is stress-free, and no, you cannot bring your work here. But a book, a nice friend, and even your little pet are all more than welcome.
One more reason to get your next coffee at Jackie? They also have a small shopping corner, where you can get a pack of coffee or your new stylish travel mug everybody will envy at work.
For a weekend (but not only) reset.

The crispiness of the chicken perfectly matched the softness of the freshly made waffle, and the teriyaki sauce was just the “savory” cherry on top.

My favorite is Spanakopita, a buttery & flaky phyllo pastry with a filling of cooked spinach and feta cheese. For dessert I recommend a slice of Bougatsa!
