After many years living in Brussels, I learned the importance of finding tricks and activities to fight the grey and rainy winters. Some people take vitamin D, but I prefer to treat myself to a visit at Maison Renardy. This lovely little tea and coffee house located in Matonge is an excellent remedy for winter blues.
Brussels is known for its chocolaty expertise, and Maison Renary is the perfect example. Their hot chocolates are DELICIOUS. You must at least get the 53% cacao, or else you are missing out on the experience (and a fun sugar rush). If you are a true sugar addict (no judgment), enjoy your hot chocolate with one of their amazing cakes. But beware: the hot chocolates also come with a small praline and it’s delicious – you won’t want to sip it. Another alternative would be to order one of their lovely and affordable pots of tea (wide selection), so you can indulge in tranquility. But seriously – try their hot chocolate at least once in your lifetime.
Maison Renardy has been running since 1912 and has an old beginning of the Century feel/charm. I love their round marble tables, the service on a silver tray, and the simplicity of the space. Very feminine, bright, perfect for an afternoon (gallant?) rendezvous, or just one of the best way I found to cheer me up during the dark winter days.

Sando is a nice nickname Japanese use for sandwiches. I love it! Sandwiches have a sauce more or less spicy and are filled with veggies and/or meat or tofu.

"Nona Pasta" is my go-to place in Brussels for proper Italian food. Nona uses only organic Belgian ingredients because it's just better that way!

There's nothing in Brussels like "Le Corbeau". It's a brasserie, a local restaurant/bar, but at night it becomes the opposite of Cinderella's fairytale...

"Coundenberg 66" Brussels is a magnificent building from 1898. It used to house La pharmacie anglaise de Charles Delacre and has many interesting features.

The "Zinneke" in Brussels is a statue of a dog that, to me, is an accurate symbol of my city with so many contrasts, but that likes to laugh about them...

"La Cambre Abbey" is an abbey tucked away in a corner of a small square in Brussels. I'm sure most visitors never notice it. It's a precious gem.

"Bois de La Cambre" is the preferred spot for me on a sunny day in Brussels. There is more to this park than a spot to have a picnic.

I have always appreciated the naughty murals spread all over the center of Brussels. This particular art piece stirred up quite the fuss...

"Garcia" in Brussels is the perfect café to have some pasteis de nata, the delicious Portuguese dessert. If I lived in Portugal, I'd be double the weight.

"Parc Leopold" is quiet, it's small and it's hidden. It's one of my favorite places to picnic in Brussels or to rest on one of the benches.
