The day I had my best burger in Brussels, started as a day like any other. It was summer; the weather was (strangely) good. As a few of the blessed people working in August in a desolate Brussels, I decided with some colleagues to go to Flagey after work, to get some food. On our way down to Flagey, Smash, hidden in a corner of Chaussée d’Ixelles (and the delicious smell coming out of it) caught our attention.
A tiny place that presents itself as “cuisine de rue” (street food), Smash is a burger place you will want to get your comfort food from. The place is quite small, with an open cuisine where the magic happens. In summer, a small terrace is available in the adjacent street. Delivery is an option, but it might be too late to taste the perfect juiciness of the hot patty that comes with a warm soft organic bun and pickles (if you are that kind of person). One bite and you will forget all about your next day’s meetings or other adult-life tasks that need to be completed. Crispy fries and fried chicken come as an extra because go hard or go home. A delicious vegetarian option with smash avocado and halloumi is available.
When in the mood for some good comfort food, Smash is the place for it: just make sure to go with a big appetite.
