Would I call gin & tonic a common drink for Bucharest locals who are looking for a night out? Not exactly, but this situation may change soon, due to GinOteca, a bar that has to offer more then 80 aromatic mixes based on gin and that was opened in 2019.
Maybe you have already had our artisanal beer at Fabrica de bere bună or your margarita at El Torito. But GinOteca definitely warrants a try if you are looking for a cold bitter alcoholic drink to enjoy in the summer.
Let me name a few of the ingredients (some local, some more exotic) that you can choose to have in your drink - coriander, cinnamon, mint, lavender, thyme, licorice, almonds, juniper, berries, anice, pepper, grapefruit, rosemary, basil, sage etc. You got the point - after all, the bar has a 14-page menu. So, lots of options!
The good news, even if you are undecided, the staff can help you with recommendations considering your preferences and choices.
If you want to try something really special, you can order Kaspers, a Transylvanian gin, made of 11 herbs, including elderflower.
