If you are feeling nostalgic of your last trip to Japan or just longing for some Japanese food, head to Uchino! Easily reachable on foot from Geneva’s main train station, this small Japanese food store is a must-go for all Japanese food lovers and not only.
I usually go there with my colleagues to grab some tasty takeaway lunch to enjoy at our workplace: the options vary from dumplings to sushi bentos and to warmer main plates such as ginger pork with rice, beef noodles or one of my favourite choices: karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken) — simply mouth-watering!
While getting my takeaway lunch, it’s almost impossible to resist buying any of those very attractive Japanese snacks like rice crackers or desserts like mochis, melon pan or green tea Kit-Kat.
On the shelves, you can find a very wide selection of all sorts of Japanese products: salty and sweet snacks, cookies, teas, rice, some fresh and frozen products and even some cute Japanese homeware like nice chopsticks, teapots, mugs etc.
Obviously, as at every respectful Japanese shop, the maneki-neko (good luck cat) is right there at the entrance, just behind the till: can you spot it in my picture above? It is just waiting there to welcome you!
