When I first stepped into this little cafe, I was intrigued by the atmosphere. Cafe Circa in Glasgow is nostalgic and reminiscent of "a better time" - it felt as though I had stepped into an episode of Stranger Things, only minus the monsters. My mother bought me a lovely little hot chocolate, and a lemon cake. They were both delicious.
As I sipped my hot chocolate, I noticed the walls were covered in photographs of people. At first I thought it was an entirely random selection of photos but when I looked at them a little more I realised some of the same faces were appearing. I saw the same boy a few times in a photo and the same girl a few times as well.
We asked the manager about the theme of the photos, and he explained that when his family pooled hundreds of photos together, they found the common theme was his mother. They organised the photos chronologically on the walls by dates, ranging from his mother's parents lives, to her life, to his life, his wife's life, and his children's lives. I thought it was lovely and a sweet and touching way to tell a family story through imagery. Definitely will go back there soon!
