Good news! The new Locavore grocery store and zero-waste food café has arrived in Glasgow (since August 2018). Based on the Southside of the City, this is a heaven where you can experience Scotland’s growing eco food movement.
The grocery provides a variety of local and seasonal products grown from their organic farms or directly sourced from small producers. There is always a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, mostly loose, and a range of appetizing artisan bread, dairies, and cheese. There is a self-service bulk section for cereals, dried fruits, flours, pasta, herbs and spices, and refill stations for milk, oil and vinegar. Eco cleaning products and toiletries are also available at affordable price in a dedicated section.
Located within the shop itself, the Locavore Café is bright and colourful. Menus are sourced and prepared from their own organic garden or network of small producers. They generally feature a daily special, a soup or stew and a ploughman’s plate including a selection of salads and dips with cheese, ham and bread. Meals follow the seasons and availability, and use excess produce to prevent waste. It’s all so delicious and healthy!
So, if you want to eat well and participate in a better food system, this is the place to be! Bon appetit!
