Golden Gate metro station is located on the intersection of two the busiest lines (green and red). It is located near the entrance to the old city which was used by all the merchants (that is why the gate was “golden” in old Kyiv).
Nowadays, many of the locals use this spot as their meeting point. Friends, couples, students, everyone arrange their meetings at the entrance of the metro station. So when someone comes first (usually it’s me, since most of my friends like to be late) you start noticing all of the other people who are also waiting for someone. Then, their friends finally come and together they start their walking tour, same as me, when I finally meet my friends.
Golden Gate is great because it opens to you the roads to most superior walking tours in Kyiv. From it, you could go to Andriivskii descent or Taras Shevchenko park or just straight to Chreschatyk. All those spots are in different directions, so when you meet in the center, the first thing is to decide where to go with your friend. From my experience, Kyiv is great to discover by foot, and meeting at Golden Gate or even just the start of your tour here is always a great choice.
