In recent years there has been some kind of craft beer boom in Ukraine. Small breweries have started making their own unique tastes in bottles. Varvar bar is the restaurant of one of such small craft brewery. Actually, I guess now they have become middle-sized, since overall their beer is one of the most popular among the new generation, esp. if you want something different from the usual lager. I used to come here with my colleagues on Friday evenings. And you definitely would want to book a table ahead because the place becomes busy quite quickly, especially during weekend evenings.
So, long story short, Varvar bar offers you a great selection of craft beers with different tastes. Sour (like Belgium lambic), salty, strong (imperial stouts, Belgium Trappist, etc.), fruity, and of course the classic IPAs. They have also got a very good kitchen, but of course, it’s the beer who is king here. People come here to drink in the first place, and maybe just have a bite between beers.
They also have good tasty lunches, and when I’ve been there during the day, there were always only a few people there. I guess everyone thinks about it as an evening style bar and doesn’t take the opportunity to have lunch there as well.
