When it was finally opened in July 2010, Butcher's Bridge became quite famous. Not only because of the decoration with works made by the sculptor Jakov Brdar but mostly because it became a "love bridge". Not so long after the opening people started hanging locks on it. Different kinds of padlocks from couples in love started appearing on its steel wires, symbolizing declarations of eternal love. A phenomenon similar to the former site on the Parisian bridge Pont des Arts, Ponte Milvio in Rome or at Mala Strana in Prague.
You can buy a padlock in a souvenir shop nearby, cafe just over the bridge, bring it with you or try to search for one at the Maximarket, Nama or Mueller shopping malls in the city centre.
Every day more and more locks appear on it and if you also want to officially confirm your love, you can lock it in Ljubljana. Before throwing the keys into Ljubljanica river be sure your love is true – because it can't be unlocked! Believe it or not - I locked a love lock with my boyfriend last year on this bridge as well! I dare you - can you find it? ;)
