Libros para un Mundo Mejor is much more than a bookstore, it’s a heartfelt project born from the conviction that to build a better world, we first have to nurture our own awareness and compassion. Located on Calle Espíritu Santo, right in the lively heart of Malasaña, this independent bookshop began with a charitable mission supporting educational projects, and continues to channel part of its work into social causes.
Inside, the space feels quietly profound. Shelves brim with carefully new and second-handed chosen books on fiction, psychology, ecology, feminism, philosophy, and personal growth—titles that encourage you to look both inward and outward. A resident cat wanders gracefully among the books, making the shop feel like home.
But Libros para un Mundo Mejor is also a dynamic place for community: they regularly organise creative workshops and gatherings that invite people to write poetry, explore ideas, share books, and grow together. It’s the kind of shop where you might walk in for a book and end up staying for a conversation or simply for the peaceful joy of being there a little longer.
For me, it’s one of Madrid’s true hidden gems: a space that gently reminds you that small moments of reflection can plant seeds for a more thoughtful, generous world. His owner writes poetry and has design beautiful pieces that you can buy in the store.
