I’m originally from Canada, and in Canada, going for brunch is a favourite pastime. We especially love our Eggs Benedict. Nothing beats rich Hollandaise sauce and runny yellow yolk oozing over bacon and an English muffin, with crispy potatoes on the side. Thank goodness for The Little Big Cafe. It has made my Sunday mornings in Madrid taste a bit more like home.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that churros and chocolate is considered breakfast food here in Spain. I also love that Spain is not like North America, but I am happy that brunch is becoming more and more popular here. I have been on the hunt for a great Benny for some time and I have finally found one that ticks all the boxes.
The Little Big Cafe, on Calle de Fernández de los Ríos, near Moncloa is a little family-run cafe with a big, delicious menu. With their workshop a couple of doors down, these folks spend their days baking a variety of cakes, cookies, and pastries using minimal sugar and simple ingredients. I think this is a great excuse to try a couple of things at once, don’t you?
In addition to their sweet stuff, they offer a full menu of breakfast, brunch, and lunch. There is something for everyone to enjoy from traditional tostadas to fresh salads and everything in between. But, be warned, this place fills up fast, so arrive early and enjoy a bright start to the day!
