It so happened that three guys were sitting in an run-down pub in the Baldestrasse 13. The old lady called Inge, who was running the Baldeschänke for 27 years, told them, she had to quit due to her age. Suddenly there was this idea in the room – owning a bar with friends. And in the end, eight friends opened the “Rennsalon” three months later in March 2010.

Renamed, refurbished, with a new concept and new customers, it appealed to bar loving people very fast. The funny thing is, after the refurbishment, nothing has really been changed, except some drinks, furniture and people. The counter is still the same, with all it’s tiny scratches and elbow dents.

As you step in, it feels homey. The guys standing behind the bar asking you, what you would like to drink, seem like they could be your new friends. The furniture is an eclectic mix of vintage and really old objects, like the cinema chairs, and make you feel that you were sitting in a living room. A cosy atmosphere is the glue that sticks you on your chair.

To be recommended: after staying there for hours – which you didn’t realize – don’t miss having a “Rennsemmel” (South Tyrolean toasted bread with cheese and ham or vegetables) and a “Apfelstrudel” (a shot of buffalo grass wodka with apple juice and cinnamon).

Randomly someone is deejaying, who surprises the audience with alternative music.

My conclusion: everyone should have the right to possess a second living room!
