Korzhov - noticable by the trademark white letter K against a red background - is a modern Russian bakery with a few branches across the city. The interiors are modern, bright and shiny with well lit glass-fronted display cases showcasing a whole range of appetising and colourful cakes, breads, pastries, tarts, pies and sandwiches.
Korzhov is above all a bakery - so there is always a great selection of freshly baked bread to choose from - ranging from dark, solid bricks of rye bread to light and fluffy baguettes or French-style croissants (my favourite is the savoury cheese croissant with herbs). There is also a choice of ready-made sandwiches and savoury pies (the salmon pie is a regular to take home). If you want something sweet, you're in the right place - whether it's a traditional Russian cinnamon roll (plyushka) or a sumptuous cream-filled toffee eclair.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and if you ask nicely, they will even keep items for you to collect later on in the day.
Top tip - they have a fantastic reward scheme where with points earned you can obtain your favourite cake or beverage (it also entitles you to a free biscuit with your coffee).
