Open-air sale of paintings at the Nevsky prospect close to St.Katherine Parish was a place of attraction from my early childhood. I was always hanging around at least for half an hour to enjoy the city views on canvas. But though I was never completely hopeless in art lessons at school, I have never tried oil painting on canvas.
Fortunately I once decided to take a trial lesson in "Palmira Art" studio just in front of St.Katherine Parish and became a real fan. The teacher was very nice and supportive, there was tea and coffee and some snacks available before and during the lesson, which took place in the very centre of the city. 3 hours of learning the basics of oil painting went by in like 1 minute. On the other hand it was very relaxing and I left with a sense of harmony and peace inside... and with my first canvas!!!
I then tried batik, pastel crayon and glass painting during the next month but realized that most of all I enjoy oil painting. If you speak Russian you can book a lesson over the phone, if not you'd better send a short email to list@palmira-art.ru with a preferred day and time of a class. Some teachers speak English, otherwise they arrange for a translator at the foreign language centre next door.
