Urban Fresco #urbanfresco is not so much a work of art or a specific place, but a concept in street art, its uses, and how we interact with the environment around us.Â
Since mid-2018, works started to appear in various spots around the city. Occasionally, the works are topical, as was the case with the image of Notre Dame that appeared not long after the fire in Paris.
The self-proclaimed "Open-Air Museum" on the small and narrow pereulok Radishcheva attracted large crowds of street art enthusiasts, interested locals and selfie-takers. This little lane adjacent to the Finnish consulate, with a drab, grey wall was transformed into a vibrant local tourist attraction bringing visitors to the cafes, restaurants and businesses nearby.
Works have appeared across the city -- it's a pleasure to spot them in dark alleyways or places beyond the public gaze. The artist, a local businessman, is a well-bearded friendly chap whose sole intention is to bring some life to the city's unloved, unused spaces.
Pereulok Radishcheva is under refurbishment (it was recently painted over), but something is promised soon.
