Some people think that Bosnia is just the upper part of our country. Well, according to some legends, our country is named after the Bosnia river. Even though it is debatable, the beauty of its spring is breathtaking, and Vrelo Bosne is a must when visiting Sarajevo.
Vrelo Bosne is a natural monument and holds a significant value in our city and our country. I remember going to Vrelo Bosne for the first time in 1992. I remember taking polaroid photos with my parents and feeding swans. Today, 28 years later, Vrelo Bosne hasn't changed much (there is still a man who takes polaroid photos) and it's beautiful as always. It is truly an oasis of peace and serenity. The thick vegetation and trees, crystal clear water, romantic wooden bridges, ducks and swans always leave me speechless.
These days I mostly travel there on my bike, through a 3.5km long path lined with tall trees. Vrelo Bosne offers a restaurant, souvenir shops and long, relaxing walks. In the restaurant you can eat a fish freshly caught from the river. There is also a playground for kids just next to the restaurant.
What makes Vrelo Bosne famous is the horses and carts. They transport people from Illidza to Vrelo Bosne - for a fee.
