Tampere is famous for its ridges like Pyynikki, Pispala, Kalevankangas and Epilä. This spot is the place where the timbered ridge of Epilänharju meets the small and clear lake Tohloppi together with a smaller swamp lake in an urban surrounding.
The best place to begin this trail is Jussinhannan leipomo, a famous local bakery is situated by the Tohloppi lake. It is the place to buy some delicious local snacks for this trail: munkki (a sugar coated donut with or without filling), pulla (a sweet bake) or karjalanpiirakka (a savoury Karelian pie) are all good options to get some energy.
With your snacks bought, you can walk to watch the sheep grazing by the lake (next to Mediapolis). Then the path continues along Tohloppi lake and there are many very old trees, flower fields as well as a nice sandy beach. There is the possibility to hire a sup board (strongly recommended) and to sup to the small island in the middle of the lake. During wintertime there is also the possibility for winter swimming with a sauna!
From the beach bath, continue to the smaller swamp lake with some beautiful pine trees and the smaller paths here. Then you have to go across the road to arrive at the ridge of Epilä where the path continues smaller. The path goes in the middle of the forest on the top of the ridge. At the end of the forest part there is a steep descent. The path ends there.
