Tampere offers some 130 kilometres of ski tracks when it is a good, snowy winter. So there is good choice regarding which trail to follow to enjoy this winter wonderland of the Pirkanmaa.
Skiing is a must during wintertime in Tampere. It is a very popular hobby in Finland and you can find old and young people on the ski trails, as well as people with all types of backgrounds, from triathlonists to couch potatoes.
The most popular ski trail is Kauppi-Kangasala, 17 kilometres of pure pleasure in the snowy forest. The easiest way to start the ski trip is from Kauppi Sport Area. From Kauppi, the trail continues to Niihaman maja, where you can, after 4 kilometres of skiing, enjoy a munkki and a glass of hot juice. From Niihaman maja, continue towards Niihama. After 1.5 kilometres there is a beautiful allotment garden just next to the trail. From Niihama you can continue for as long as you have the energy, until the city center of Kangasala, the neighbouring city to Tampere.
The terrain of the trail is quite flat, so there are no big ups and downs until you reach the esker of Kangasala at the very end of the trail.
