If you happen to visit Tampere on a sunny and warm day, head to this little sandy beach by the lake Pyhäjärvi. Just a 15 min walk from the city centre and you enjoy the sun, playing beach volleyball or paddling. I love this place for the feeling of being somewhere souther than Finland, yet being in the very hear of the Finnish Lakeland. As you can guess, there are not so many days a year you can be lucky with the weather enough for that, but once you are, you’re guaranteed a joyful day.
The standup-paddling renting point “SUP in Tampere” is open in the daytime on weekdays provided the weather is not rainy or windy. In the summer time, when the nights are full of light, SUP Tampere organizes a “Midnight sun supboarding tour” on the lake Pyhäjärvi, with introductions for beginners. If you’re experienced in paddling, you can also just rent the board or learn some SUP yoga.
