The last few years all kind of hip restaurants and trendy bars have appeared in The Hague. However, some things never change. One of them is ‘Bodega de Posthoorn’, an old-fashioned café and restaurant on the Lange Voorhout, the stately avenue in the city center. The bar has been there for decades and probably little in the interior has changed. It is known for its typical clientele of politicians, artists and typical examples of chic The Hague. This is one of the few places where you can still see fragile old ladies sipping their afternoon tea, sitting next to a famous movie director or even the prime minister.
For me, one of the highlights of The Posthoorn is the – how should I say it – somewhat quirky service. I once waited half an hour for the waiter to arrive, only to have him tell me that they were about to close. Funny thing is, it only made me enjoy the unique atmosphere more. Especially while at the same time live piano music was being played.
In summer there’s a book- and antiques market on the Lange Voorhout every Thursday and Sunday, just outside The Posthoorn. I can’t think of a better place to have a coffee on a sunny Sunday morning.
