"The place is stylish yet comfy, and the staff make you feel welcome. Most importantly, their pastries look exquisite and they make their own boterkoek!"
When I first came to The Hague as a tourist, my husband and I walked past this café and decided to go in because it was raining. In an instant we felt enchanted by the “homey” feeling of the café. The place is stylish yet comfy, the staff are personable and make you feel welcome. Most importantly, their pastries look exquisite. We ordered a flat white and a cappuccino, and both of them were delicious. When we lifted up the cup to drink, we saw that there was a little square piece of very dense-looking cake placed neatly on our saucers. We tried it and were blown away by the texture and taste. Ever heard of the Dutch boterkoek? If not, this is a must-try.

At Fleur’s they make their own boterkoek (amongst many other tasty treats). You can buy them in a bigger slice to have with your coffee or buy the little ones in a bag of 10-15 pieces to take away. Apart from their culinary delights, which range from breakfast over lunch (try out their Makreelsalade Boterham!), afternoon tea and the compulsory borrel, Fleur’s also provides spots to work on your laptop at the back of the café. Fleur’s is kid-friendly, having a little corner with books and toys to keep the young ones entertained, and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Fleur’s is located on a street corner, often providing nice outdoor seating in the sun (mostly in the afternoon).

Uitkijktoren Binnenhof – Dutch politics from above

There is no elevator, so you have to walk the entire way up, but the view is lovely, as you can see the Binnenhof and the surrounding areas, it is definitely worth a visit.
