First thing first: Pompernikkel doesn’t serve Pumpernickel bread. Not yet, anyway. Instead, this cute little café describes itself as a Viennoiserie bakery and restaurant. Pompernikkel used to offer delicious sourdough loaves, but the owner developed severe wheat and rye allergies which forced them to stop their bread baking (temporarily).
They are now focusing on pastries, coffee, and other mouth-watering goodies. Pompernikkel is where you walk past in the mornings, spontaneously grab a coffee, devour an artisanal pastry, and bump into your neighbours. They serve breakfast and plan to expand their menu in the future. I like their charming interior and how open the space is – when sitting at a table inside you can watch the baristas prepare your coffee and also admire the bakers and their craftmanship at the back of the place. When grabbing a spot on their little outside terrace, you can enjoy some sun and watch the cyclists cruise past.
Currently, their opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 09:00 - 16:00. Make sure to check out their cute Instagram account as well!
