My neighborhood, the Zeeheldenkwartier, has been one of the most hip and happening areas of the city for a few years now. Not a month goes by without a new restaurant being opened, a yoga studio opening its doors or a fantastic new shop seeing the light of day. The best part about this neighbourhood: you will find no large chains, just little independent shops and restaurants. One of my (and many people’s) favorites is Wauw, a tiny green department shore on the Piet Heinstraat. Or, as they call themselves, a ‘wild and unique warehouse’.
Wauw is a shop that combines all good things in life: vintage furniture, plants, gorgeous knickknacks, adorable stationery and beautiful jewelry. It’s absolutely impossible to enter this store and leave empty-handed. For me, this is the place I go to when I have to buy somebody a gift. To be honest, it’s also the place I send my family to, if my own birthday is coming up.
