I had already heard about Patacona Beach before coming, and being here I understood what all the fuss about it was.
The community of Valencia has some of the most visited beaches in Spain and in all the Mediterranean countries, so it is not difficult to find one you like. However, the best ones are not close to an urban area like this one.
It´s a 17-minute car drive from Valencia city centre and a 50-minute bus drive. Being a little further away and having to walk a bit if you take public transportation is one of the things I like and the reason I recommend it more than any other urban beach. It is not that crowded, even in high season. This means it is a lot less crowded than other beaches like Malvarrosa, keep that in mind.
The beach walk is beautiful all year long, full of palm trees. There are a few restaurants and “chiringuitos” (beach bars) along the way, too, but check their availability during summertime. There is also a residential area with all the services needed to spend a few days without even having to leave for the city.
Surfers, joggers, bike riders and volleyball players mingle with people relaxing by the beach or wanting to party all day long. Locals and visitors alike visit Patacona for a wonderful experience, and you should do the same.
