Medina Cafe is the place to get brunch in Vancouver. The menu takes inspiration from classic French dishes with an influence from Middle Eastern flavours. Dishes are bold and flavourful, served in rustic clay pottery and cast iron pans.
One of my favourites is their fricassee which comes with two fried eggs, braised short ribs, potatoes and topped with caramelized onions, cheddar and seasonal greens. There is also a vegetarian version of the dish that is served with mushrooms instead of the short ribs.
Make sure you save room for dessert. Their Liege style Belgium waffles are some of my favourites in the city. They’re soft and sweet in all the right ways and is a great way to end the meal. I like mine with a side of salted caramel sauce.
Lines are prevalent here and waiting is the norm. My tip is to go put your name down, find out approximately how long the wait is and go for a walk around the area or grab a coffee nearby to wait. Even if you’re not there when they call your name, you’ll be next in line for a table when you do return, They also only seat you if your whole party has arrived. It is open every day until 15:00.
