If you love history or architecture, stopping by for a photo of the Dominion Building is a must.
Located in Vancouver's old Gastown district and completed in 1910, it is one of the biggest historic buildings in the city. At the time, it was built in the finance district to house the Dominion Bank. When it was constructed, it was the tallest building in the British Empire, holding the title for two years. As with all historical buildings, some say that it is haunted, with current business owners claiming to hear ghostly things on occasion.
The Dominion Building has always been one of those buildings that catches my eye because of how different it is from the typical tall modern buildings of Vancouver. With its distinctive red roof and decorative bricks, it’s clear it comes from another era. It now houses studios and offices, so it is best viewed from the outside. However, it is worth a photo stop, especially if you are already wandering around Gastown.
