Poke is huge all over the west coast and Vancouver’s love for it just keeps growing and growing. Originating in Hawaii, this sushi bowl dish lives up to the hype. My personal favourite poke place, Hoke Poke in Kitsilano, allows you to customize your bowl to your liking. You usually start with a base of rice and raw fish and add in vegetables & seasoning from there. If raw fish isn’t your forte, you might want to steer clear of poke. Poke is a favourite among locals for its sushi-like taste and quick, on-the-go nature.
One of the things I love about Hoke Poke is how conveniently located it is: a quick stop on the way to Kitsilano Beach makes for a great picnic date with friends or a special someone. It’s also close to some of the best fitness studios in town for a good old post-workout indulgence. You’ll definitely want to try some poke while you’re in town to get the full Vancouver experience.
