Handcrafted premium bread has recently enjoyed a renaissance in Vienna. Joseph Brot, Gragger, and Öfferl have stirred up the scene in the last years with their stylish bake shops and excellent handcrafted products. With strong branding and positioning in the premium market, the Lower Austrian Baker Öfferl has opened several locations in Vienna to cover the taste of wealthy and trendy consumers.
Besides the takeaway bread and seasonal pastries, the shop offers premium organic products from producers around Vienna. It is a one-stop shop for an extravagant pick-nick or special treat with a superb coffee-to-go on the side. The Coffee-shop in Wollzeile even serves breakfast and snacks. The energy crisis and inflation has hit hard all of the bakers, and the hefty prices keep growing. But still, the difference between industrially produced baking products and the handcraft of Öfferl leaves no doubt: A bite in the fluffy Salzstangerln, Semmeln, or Nussbeugeln is worth every cent.
