For the last 5 years, Feyrouz has had the first place in my heart and in my stomach. Located at the very center of Athens, in the neighbourhood around Aiolou Street, there you can taste food from the area of Antioch.
Mrs Eleni Feyrouz, who comes from that area, bakes lechmatzoun every morning and her sons, Andreas and Savvas, make a gastronomic tour for you so you can choose the one that fits your appetite most!
First we have different types of lechmatzoun - one with vegetables, one with minced meat and one with spices, and then you can choose between hummus, tabouleh or spicy eggplant for your lechmatzoun. You can also try one of their pies: ftoir and zatar, and also their soups. At the end of this gastronomic experience, you can ask for one of their super delicious sweets. My favorite one is ashourez made with wheat and pomegranate.
I have visited them again and again. Not only because of how gastronomically happy they make me, but also because you can feel that this family runs their small business with love for food and respect to their roots.
Feyrouz was voted as the best place for street food in Athens and we couldn't agree more!
PS: Open during the lockdown for take-away food!
