Vegan Beat — the name says it all. There’s little else you need to know about this spot, if the name makes you turn your head like it did for me. Oh, of course, the location: it’s really close to the Athens Mitropoli, not far from Monastiraki. That’s dead centre, folks.
Still, it was an exceedingly happy accident I got to hear about this little place from a Slovak friend who also quite accidentally ran into it, and believe me it’s quite well hidden. It’s on a cozy mezzanine tucked inside an arcade, and it feels like an outpost of good vibes in this ultra-touristy part of the city.
My first time there I had already had lunch so I got a vegan cake and asked for a freddo in my reusable/metal straw cup, and that got me talking with super-enthusiastic, happy owner and main man Alexandros with whom we hit it off from the beginning. Another time I was there for the promotion of the new Vero Cereal oat drinks which can be poured there directly from the tap. Just go for the cocoa flavor, if you ask me.
Their signature burger is also really good, and I’ve heard great things about the gyros. Maybe you can try that for me when you’re there.
And here I was, wondering whether vegan feta was even possible. Well, that one’s solved. 😉
