At the heart of Gràcia, there is a simple but popular bar. For me, it is almost the definition of what I consider a good bar to be: a good selection of beer at good prices, a lively ambiance and a friendly crowd of locals.
Fairly close to Joanic metro station, El Gato Negro has got big wooden tables and is lit with dim orange lights, which makes the place feel cozy. The bar is divided into two spaces and the walls feature various paintings of big black cats.
El Gato Negro is often packed with locals, especially on Friday and Saturday nights when it gets very lively. However, if you're looking for peace and quiet while enjoying your beer, I recommend coming here on weekdays, before rush hour, as it does get packed later on.
Unlike many bars around Gràcia, the prices here are very affordable, which in part explains why it is so popular. A caña of Moritz costs 1.70€ and a jarra (pint) 2.20€. They also have a good selection of bottled beers such as Franziskaner, Praga, Guinness, Brutus, Voll-Damm, Bavaria, etc.
It is also a good place to watch football on their huge TV.
It's a great place to go with friends for a couple of beers. I usually come here in the evening and have a refreshing Moritz or, sometimes, depending on my mood, a cocktail.
If you find yourself in Gràcia, it's worth dropping in before a concert at Heliogàbal.
Minimum credit/debit card is 4€
