The idea of eating a meal from a jar might not evoke gourmet food for many of us. That is, unless the jars and their contents, more commonly known as “Bocaux”, come from France. The home of cordon bleu chefs has a tradition of wholesome and tasty food packed in glass jars without any loss of quality. And that tradition has now crossed the border.
The Bristrot Bocaux, has recently introduced to Brussels the concept of a restaurant offering food directly from jars. On its shelves, which line the walls of the whole restaurant, one can find a staggering range of pickled, braised, and all the other yummy things the French do to prepare their their food, in jars.
You can choose pretty much anything, whether it’s vegetables, tripe, fish and meat, and have it served at the table in a plate, or as a take-out. I can assure you that the Médaillon de porc à l échalote (Porc tenderloin) tastes exactly as it sounds: juicy and succulent!
