Impact – Café by Plastic2Beans in Cologne Sülz is where I wait for my partner while he is doing Crossfit at CrossFit Am Dom, just 180m away. The Impact Café is a cosy café where you can enjoy pastries such as cinnamon rolls, not-too-sweet hot chocolate, homemade iced teas and, of course, coffee. The coffee may seem expensive at first, but it is organic and fair trade (the Ethiopian producers are paid two to three times the market price). The Impact Café is actually run by the Cologne-based impact start-up Plastic2Beans, which aims to make the Ethiopian plastics industry more circular and sustainable.
I also went there on a Sunday morning to enjoy their All-You-Can-Pancake-Raclette with friends. You get to make your own American-style pancakes, served with various sweet and savoury toppings. This time, we were in the back room, which is very family-friendly and has toys for the kids. Impact Café also has Techno Thursdays (18:00 – 20:00), which you can join for free, and the Aperol ‘o Clock (€5.50 from 15:05).
The Impact Café is just 400 metres from the Weisshaus cinema, which Christin Otto says is a real institution in Cologne-Sülz.
