There’s a district in Kyiv, called Podil. Literally it means “the bottom edge”. This is an ancient part of town where all the traders and craftsmen lived and worked. Now it’s the place where a lot of artists live. It’s a cozy low-rise district with lots of bars and pubs.
There was one iconic brewery with the same name Podil here. They made perfect beer. There was also an iconic beer pub where they used to serve this beer. There were only two kinds of beer: a light one and a dark one. And salty fish. This was a hot spot of Podil. All the drinkers and artists hung out here together.
They closed the brewery a couple of years ago. And the pub too. Fortunately the pub reopened at the next corner very shortly afterwards. The same atmosphere and the same frequenters hang out there. They serve another, but also good, beer by a local brewery and the best salty fish. Meet me there!
PS: not a fancy place at all!
