Some theatres can be boring, presenting old and uninteresting dramas, plays, but from time to time you discover a pearl among the shells. GLEJ theatre is one such pearl. Situated in the city core, near the National University Library it is a theatre with a fresh and innovative approach with interesting plays and dramas. Its name literally means SEE! It is most popular among students and young people, but there are also older people that wander here to watch dramas.
The main topics presented in the theatre are controversial and taboo topics; such as prostitution, corruption, family and society values changes, and many others. From time to time there are also plays for children. Because the theatre is really small, the best way is to reserve a ticket, and prices are reasonable.
Although most of the plays are in Slovene language, there are a few in English. They also organize a school, present different performances, and host resident directors throughout the year. The staff and the theatre are definitely one of a kind in Ljubljana and I visit them frequently. For information about English plays you should visit their page.
