Early evenings are my favourite time of day in Plaza de Olavide and the best time to have a coffee surrounded by lovely books in Olavide Bar de Libros. It's hard to miss this little red shop, with its soft lights warming up the corner of Calle de Palafox and Calle de Olid, and it just begs a peek inside.
Antique tables and chairs are dotted through this small and cozy space making it an inviting place to sit down and simply enjoy the atmosphere. Coffee and cake are served in charming bone china teacups and saucers, just adding to the sophisticated feel of this little bookshop. It’s a joy to simply hang out and read or chat with a friend. However, the books are the star of the show here, and Bar de Libros has a beautiful collection devoted to poetry, fiction, philosophy, and the classics, as well as a section for the little ones.
In addition to books, this has become a community meeting place for cultural programs, workshops, and exhibitions. It’s also possible to rent a table by the hour if you would like to come and work. I can’t think of a less stressful office! Olavide Bar de Libros has been a wonderful addition to the Chamberí neighbourhood, so come, settle in, and make yourself at home.
