Hakasen Leipomo, or Hakanen Bakery in English, has a few establishments through Tampere, but their establishment in the Kaleva neighborhood is closest to my own home, and the one I personally visit the most.
The products available at Hakasen Leipomo vary by day, and often also by the hour, because they are constantly baking throughout the day! At the Kaleva establishment, they don’t usually sell normal breadstuff you can buy in regular supermarkets, but a large array of sweet and savory pastries, which you can smell from outside the door! It’s the perfect place to try various Finnish pastries, such as ‘korvapuusti’, ‘voisilmäpulla’ or even the Danish ‘viineri’ ones.
One of my favorite pastries to get from Hakasen Leipomo is a spicy minced meat pastry called ‘peremec’ or ‘pärämätsi’. It is a real local Tampere treat, though it was brought over here by the Russians. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even buy the spice mix from Hakasen Leipomo and try making it yourself at home!
