Kalevankangas cemetery, surrounded by a thick red brick wall, is situated on the top of a ridge, very close to Tampere University.
The place is beautiful as a cemetery (check out the article by Tiia) but there's also this very nice but quite unknown view path on the south side of the cemetery, outside the cemetery wall.
I have lived for over ten years in the Tampere region and I found this trail just last year, accidentally. I fell immediately in love with it.
This path can be found when following the cemetery wall from Kalevantie (the street going by the cemetery) and heading south, towards Iidesjärvi (the lake).
The path is quite narrow but easy to walk on and goes in the middle of nice, large pine trees. It offers great views towards Iidesjärvi, Viinikka and Hervanta.
After admiring the views you can head to the shores of nearby lake Iidesjärvi. There is a seven-kilometer-long nature trail going around the lake but you can also have a shorter walk in this beautiful neighborhood.
Iidesjärvi lake is a paradise for bird watchers. On early mornings, especially in springtime, there are many bird watchers with their binoculars!
