Do you know underpasses? They are usually grey concrete, at least in Finland. No colours, few lights... Maybe some writings on the wall. If you go through that underpass almost every day, wouldn't it be nice to see some colours?
Now it is possible in Tampere! In the year 2020, three underpasses were painted with a lot of colours. You have to see them! Artists Päivi Arenius and Niina Kuukari have made the paintings in Messukylä underpass and they are really unique. In Messukylä there is a circus, in Kaukajärvi, just next to the lake there is a fish team. The others are in Takahuhti, next to Messukylä library and in Hyllilänpolku. Four other underpasses are made by artist Tomi Lastunen.
But kids got to help too! Children from Tampere had a chance to spray colours to underpasses with the help of adults. Now, these four underpasses are ready and they are made with heart and with local kids. It is a really nice way to get colours to your neighbourhood. There is a text in every underpass "made by the company SirkusrakkausPumPum and kids"!
Go check them out! Next to Messukylä underpass there is also the oldest church in Tampere, Messukylä's old church, which is also the oldest building in Tampere from the 15th century.
