One of the hidden gems of Valencia is definitely San Nicolas Church, also known as Iglesia de San Nicolás de Bari y San Pedro Mártir. It is of the same age as Valencia itself, having been one of the main Christian temples in the city. It was turned into a mosque when the Moors arrived in Valencia and then back to a Catholic church in the XIII century. The church was refurbished in the Gothic style in the XV century, with the interior completely redecorated in the Baroque style in the XVII century. During that time the magnificent ceiling was born - a series of extraordinary frescoes about the life of Saint Nicholas of Bari and Saint Peter of Verona.
Recently in 2016, the faculty of heritage restoration for the Technical University of Valencia partnered with the former director of the Sistine Chapel renovations to bring the church back to its former glory. After 5 years of restoration, many began to call it the Sistine Chapel.
Come and enjoy 2000-meter frescos that will leave you speechless. Check out the site to combine your visit with the organ concert, which takes place occasionally in the church.
