Vincek is a pastry shop of legendary status in Zagreb. Their cakes and ice cream have been tasted by almost all of Zagrebers and many, many tourists. It was one of the first pastry shops in the center of Zagreb that also offered coffee, other hot and cold beverages, as well as alcohol. This diversity of the offer was one of the reasons for its popularity. The other is surely its superb location on Ilica street, just a few steps away from the funicular.
Vincek was opened in 1977 as a small family pastry shop (the name Vincek is the family’s last name). Today there are several Vincek pastry shops in Zagreb, but this one is the most famous and most visited. Most of the time there is a queue all the way to the street, people waiting to order ice cream to go, especially in the summer months.
However, the winter months are also a great time to visit and try the winter offer: chestnut pies and purees, hot chocolate, mulled wine...
My favorite thing to order is the nougat ice cream, which tastes a lot like nutella. Their signature ice cream, Vincek, is also very tasty. It is a combination of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, with whole hazelnut halves in it. They also have a wide variety of diet ice creams.
Whether you are about to climb to Upper town, or you are just strolling through Zagreb center, Vincek is a stop you should not miss.
