Next to Rotterdam’s biggest events hall Ahoy lies the Zuiderpark (Southernpark). Like the name suggest, this park lies at the southside of the city. Because of its location it is a twenty-minute bike ride from the city center or just a 10-minute ride with the metro (exit on station Zuidplein). Although it doesn’t lie in the center, it is well worth the trip.
A few years ago, the park was redecorated and let’s say they did a phenomenal job. Since it's the largest park in the country you could do many things there. There are soccer, basketball and tennis fields. On top of that there is a large playground (jeej!), a skatepark and there are a lot of cute bridges across small ponds. They even thought about the fitgirls and fitboys by installing some workout equipment.
The park contains numerous large grass fields as well. Ideal for playing frisbee or to just chill on a plaid with friends and do some barbequing. It is wonderful to visit the park during the last few hours of daylight and see all the people enjoying their night. I’m not that often in the south, but when I am, the Zuiderpark is a must visit for me.
