Last weekend I felt like I wanted to have some good cheese, and what is the best place for shopping for cheese than Tampere Market Hall and Juustosoppi?
Juustosoppi is the oldest privately owned cheese shop in Tampere. I have the great pleasure of knowing the owner, Mrs. Eija Ahvenjärvi, and she is really the "cheese lady". The selection of cheese is huge, and it's also changing a lot. Any kind of cheese you can imagine, she has it!
Last summer the owner wanted to do something more. Her dream had been already for a while to have a small cheese and wine bar inside her cheese shop. Some renovations, and there it was: a tiny cheese and wine bar.
While shopping in the Market Hall, you can now sit down and have a cheese plate with a glass of wine. There are 4 seats on the hallway, but more people can fit there easily standing. The price of a cheese plate starts from 6€, which is very reasonable. And yes, there are also Finnish cheeses available, just ask for them.
The tiny cheese and wine bar for sure is an experience. Last weekend, I had a chance to sit down and enjoy some amazing pieces of cheese and excellent Riesling with them, and even for me as a local it was such a relaxing moment.
